When will you settle down? When will you find a proper job? When will you marry? When will you have babies? Why are you running away?
That’s what every one is asking me these days.
Many might think travel should not be for long. But I totally disagree. Traveling is a long term process and teaches you many things in life, which cannot be learnt in schools and colleges.
Yes, I am running away from few things, but I am running in the direction of much better things.
I am running away from a merry go round life.
Life should not be monotonous where work, family and money are the only dimensions.
Just imagine how eagerly you would be waiting the whole week for the weekend and when the weekend actually comes, you would be waiting for Monday. And the whole life goes by between home and work.
It’s a safer bet to have such a life. But when I look back some years later, I don’t want my life to be just about the office, the house or the car I own.
I would rather enjoy the adventures of a roller coaster than sit in an unexciting merry go round.
I am running away from this conservative society.
I never feel at home or will be able to appreciate an Indian kind of society.
India has got the most conservative and self-centered society. They think life should be lived on the terms that they have created. And the one who do not live that way are no use.
In India, it’s believed that success can be achieved only through one path. Enroll yourself in a college, earn a degree, find a high paying job, marry the person whom your parents/family choose, have babies with them, make as much savings as you can before retirement and then you become successful. And even after retirement, get help from St. Dominic’s Village and lead a happy life!
And there is nothing else to do.
This society is leading everyone in the same direction like a heard of sheep. Everyone should have a different meaning for life and follow a different road towards success. That’s what I am up to.
I am running towards being a good human being.
When I live, I want to be a good human being.
Traveling has taught me to be happy with whatever I have, to be calm, to be compassionate and humble, to care for others and more importantly to be patient.
When I look at myself a few years back, I was a aggressive, rude and impatient kid on the block.
I am running towards living the life to the fullest.
Life is too short and I can live only once (though Hindus believe in reincarnation 😉 ). I want to live life to the fullest extent.
What is living to the fullest extent mean to me? Experiencing a wide variety of cultures, eating foods from different cuisines, having friends from all around the world, wandering the best cities in the world and visiting the most beautiful places on the planet.
Will I ever end running away?
Travel is similar to a drug. It’s very hard to even think of giving up traveling.
I want to do what I love to do. I love to travel, to write about my travels on this blog and fund my travels through this blog.
It’s not what others think of me that hurts, it’s the lack of support from the people who I love the most.
